New Learning through Film Workshop Experiences

During the course of last term, as per our blog posts, we carried out some key stage 1 and key stage 2 workshops involving static and live action filming with the children to create individual pieces of footage incorporating both pupils and their artwork.

Puppetman have been working hard throughout the summer months to further develop these workshops to ensure greater flexibility around subject matter and full pupil participation.

The workshops are aimed at key stage 2, class 5 and above and involve the use of chroma key (filming against a green background and then adding a backdrop afterwards), live action filming, importing of video and music clips and the creation of title sequences. The end result will be a short informative program, created entirely by the pupils.

As I am sure that you will appreciate, this type of workshop has many cross curricular benefits, as well as giving the children an insight into television production. It can also act as transitional project work within the move from primary to secondary school.

Virtual Olympics comes to Bradford!!

Following the success and enjoyment of the workshops held at Heathfield School, Rishworth, Puppetman went on to host a 3 day workshop for all the pupils of class 2 at Bowling Park and Usher Street, Bradford.

This time the workshop had an Olympic theme and the children created some amazing pieces of artwork involving winners, podiums, flags and medals.

Once again, the children were filmed against green and then chroma keyed into their artwork against an animated background.

We felt that the children got immense enjoyment from the sessions and the teacher's feedback reflected that with comments such as:

Pirates of the Carribean live in Rishworth, Halifax

Last term, we had brilliant fun with class 5 at Heathfield School. The children spent the day being involved in live action filming against "green screen" in the guise of pirates. They then completed some fantastic artwork which resulted in the creation of individual pirate scenes.

Feedback from the Anthony Wilkins, Headteacher was that "the children loved it".

Each pupil designed their own pirate ship, flag and seamonster and Puppetman Education married the elements together with an animating background adding the chroma keyed pirate.
